What is Ayurvedic massage and its benefits

February 04, 2015

Ayurvedic massage is a type of oil massage that treats the entire body through touch for physical, mental, and emotional benefits. The ancient practice of Ayurveda is a form of alternative medicine born in India and a system of health recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is based on the idea that all forms of life have a "dosha", that is, a unique mixture of vital energies known as "vata", "pitta" and "kapha", and each dosha must be treated specifically and individually. An Ayurvedic massage improves the elimination of toxins, strengthens muscle tone, stimulates the production of antibodies, and relaxes and rejuvenates your body. To do this, the masseur uses hands, feet, elbows, forearms, or pindas (cloth bags filled with aromatic herbs and medicinal plants). The role played by essential oils is essential because they are chosen to adjust to your dosha and give strength to the nerves. The techniques usually used for Ayurvedic massage include the action of kneading, squeezing, and pressing with the fingertips, in addition to the typical movements of traditional massages. The style, intensity, and flow of the massage are determined by you and what your body needs to maintain balance and well-being. An Ayurveda therapist concentrates on "marma" points, similar to pressure points in reflexology, acupuncture, and acupressure. Ayurvedic massage cleanses and detoxifies your body by increasing the effectiveness of your immune system, so it can ultimately help cure all diseases as well as maintain good health leading to an improvement in your general well-being. Benefits of Ayurvedic massage Combined with other Ayurvedic principles - such as eating a certain variety of foods prescribed according to your dosha, or exercising at certain times of the day - Ayurvedic massage is designed to:
  • detoxify and cleanse
  • Increase the effectiveness of the immune system
  • Keeping healthy people in good health
  • Help people with medical conditions to improve their general well-being
  • relieve stress
  • Improve circulation
  • relieve migraines
  • Increase awareness and knowledge of one's own body
  • increase vitality
  • Contribute to healthy skin
  • Promote deep relaxation
