Savasana: Corpse Pose

Jun 27, 2011

In today's blog we will talk about a pose that is very typical at the end of yoga practice, no matter what style is practiced. This posture is Savasana, also known as corpse pose or relaxation pose. To perform the posture you must first lie down slowly and gently, in this way you will prepare the body for relaxation. Once on the ground, make sure your legs are at least hip-width apart. Drop your legs naturally to their sides. Make sure your lower back is not arched excessively, that your shoulders are not raised towards your ears, that your neck is extended and push your chin slightly towards the sternum. Leave your arms slightly separated from the trunk and make sure that the palms of the hands are facing the ceiling, with the fingers relaxed. Savasana can be a very uncomfortable pose, as you must remain completely still for the duration of the relaxation. If for some reason you must move during the pose, try to do it slowly and making sure that this movement does not break the harmony of the state of the whole body. You will notice that once you perform Savasana in a conscious way, you will greatly enjoy relaxation and disconnection while receiving the benefits of your practice. You can also practice Savasana in sleepless moments or moments when you have little time to rest, but you need to recover energy. You will surely benefit from it, feeling totally renewed and refreshed. Namaste, Nina
