Music Therapy with Water Gourds

Jun 06, 2011

Music therapy is the use of music and musical elements (sound, rhythm and harmony) as therapy with a patient or a group. It is a process created to improve the physical, emotional, mental, social and cognitive quality of the person. Today we will talk about The Water Gourds or Water Drum, an instrument born in Central Africa (Mali-Senegal), within matriarchal communities where women used it as a container for domestic work. Playing with the water and these giant containers, they created rhythms and phrasing, also hitting their hands against the water. Placing the gourd upside down in another container of water produces a deep sound, similar to the beating of the heart. For this reason, this style of music therapy is very pleasant for pregnant women, as it creates a sense of peace and a relaxed atmosphere. In Barcelona, Dídac Ruiz, a musician-percussionist with more than 13 years of experience in the world of music and who has participated in various projects, discovered gourds during one of his trips to Central Africa. In this way, he was able to open new facets in his music, using this instrument in a therapeutic way, taking advantage of its high vibrational level. Dídac Ruiz teaches workshops throughout Catalonia with a mostly female audience, where expectant mothers or mothers and their children can enjoy together and connect with the depths of their essence. For more info on workshops: ditactac@hotmail.com This Friday, 10.06.2011, at 21:30 p.m. in space Zen Kannon Gyo del Born/ Barcelona will be merging the group “Soubugen” (traditional Japanese music) + Dídac Ruiz (Calabaza de Agua/K' Ngoni) + Pedro Collares (Hang). Do not miss this opportunity to vibrate in a unique harmony of love and harmony that you will feel in the depths of your heart. Namaste, Nina.
