History of Kundalini Yoga

To know the beginnings of Kundalini Yoga we must refer to the person who opened these teachings to the West: Master Yogi Bhajan. One of the main characteristics of Kundalini Yoga is that it is a legacy; and with this we can go back in time and imagine how each posture, meditation and mantra has been tirelessly passed from teacher to student for thousands of years until today. Yogi Bhajan was born in India in 1929 under the name of Harbhajan Singh Puri, and lived this experience in his own flesh; he spent his youth in India, where from the age of 16 he mastered the technique of Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Vedic philosophy and meditation under the guidance of his teacher Sant Hazara Singh. He graduated with honors in Economics from Punjab University, served in the Indian Army, married Inderjit Kaur with whom he had 3 children, and worked in customs at Palim International Airport. In 1968 he received an invitation to go to Canada and teach Yoga at the University of Toronto, and later, he settled in Los Angeles where his students began to affectionately call him Yogi Bhajan. Already in the United States he received a doctorate in Communication and founded the 3HO Organization (in English 3HO stands for Healthy, Happy and Holy) where for the first time the teachings began to be prepared in writing. He was a man of peace, worldview and a distinguished reputation. During his life he worked hand in hand with the Dalai Lama to promote peace and, at the height of the revolution in the 70's, he began teaching young Americans to connect with their breath, body and mind, and experience their infinite potential without drug need.
