The mudras - simple and powerful gestures

September 12, 2011

Mudras are such simple gestures and at the same time so wise. Aristotle already said in his day that the hand was the instrument of instruments, and it is that in them you have powerful tools that you can use to obtain great benefits in the energy flow of your body and mind. In Yoga practice, the act of forming mudras with your fingers and hands is closely related to the psyche, that is, as the hand and the brain form an inseparable unit, through the movements and positions you make with them you will be acting directly in your mental field, granting you great benefits, ranging from the treatment of physical ailments, such as back pain, relaxation, or even helping you overcome fears and phobias. The best of all is that the mudras give you a breath of well-being at any time or place you decide to give yourself a few moments, they are uncomplicated and you do not need to be practicing a Yoga kriya (set of exercises that work on an aspect in concrete) to realize them, putting your intention is the only thing that is required. There are many variants: static mudras, dynamic mudras, etc., and each of them is focused on working on a particular aspect. Today I want to talk to you about the mudra of venus, which aims to concentrate the energy of the second chakra (energy center) and channel it towards the upper chakras, in this way the sexual or creative energy circulates and the glandular balance is activated, so you can feel the necessary motivation to face your life, and enough openness to share yourself with others. What is the Venus Mudra? Start by interlocking your fingers with your palms apart. If you are a man you should place your right thumb on top of the left, pressing it lightly, and if you are a woman the other way around, the left thumb on the right, also exerting light pressure. The thumb represents the ego and its mound is associated with sensuality and libido, that is, creative energy that can be channelled. In a natural way, the thumb that remains inside is placed on the membrane between the thumb and the index finger of the opposite hand, this point of the hand in acupressure is worked to treat intestinal disorders, sinusitis, colds, sore throats and the cough. In addition to what has been said, it must be added that the organs affected by the mudra are related to acceptance, detachment and truth. Satnam, Irune
