A book on travel to India and the spiritual quest

April 23, 2012

My name is Naren Herrero and I am a journalist and writer. In 2003, I traveled to India for the first time for three months, after having heard and read a great deal about what is considered by many to be a holy land. Since then I have traveled five other times to that immense country. There I personally met Swami Premananda, my spiritual teacher, who encouraged me to write a book about my experiences in India. Starting the publication of my chronicles through the blog Neighbor's Son, little by little a spiritual book was developed, whose essence is my route notebooks, corrected and improved, as well as the reflections of my own spiritual search. The title of the book is Spiritual travel diary of a neighbor's son and with the first paper edition sold out, it is now available in digital version, PDF format. Spiritual travel diary of a neighbor's son by Naren Herrero Among the various experiences that take place, the encounters with people considered saints such as But 'the saint of hugs' or the well-known Sathya Sai Baba. Likewise, the reader is taken on a complete journey through the extensive land of India, from Kanyakumari, to the extreme south, to the Himalayas, to the north, looking for the source of the Ganges river. In the middle, the Calcutta full Mother Teresa; the chaos of New Delhi; Amristar, the sacred city of Sikhism; the diaphanous beauty of Taj Mahal; and the unforgettable vision of the holiest city in India: Varanasi . On the other hand, Hindu philosophy is reflected in explanations of deities such as Ganesha, Time, Krishna o Shiva, and concepts like karma and reincarnation. Without forgetting the curiosities, the episodes referring to traveling by train for days, futilely fighting against mosquitoes or being robbed on the bus are narrated... All of the above, in reality, remains a mere anecdote when compared to the strong spiritual experiences that are related: residing in the spiritual retreats of the saints; witness miracles such as the manifestation of holy ash or the birth of a shiva lingam. The novelty of this book is the treatment of spirituality by, precisely, a neighbor's son. That is to say, an ordinary guy, born and raised in the West, who talks little about mysticism and levitation, but a lot about simple spiritual experiences, with the intent of taking the reader on a journey, sometimes making him reflect and others laugh.
