The Rosehip and its cosmetic properties
May 21, 2015
The rosehip is a powerful regenerator of the skin. In romantic terms we could say that it is a fountain of youth, its essential fatty acids (omega 6, omega 3, linoleic), and its antioxidants and vitamins (A, C and E) are revolutionizing the world of medicine and natural cosmetics. The oil extracted from its seeds reduces wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks, and is increasingly used in the recovery of skin affected by radiotherapy, burns, or surgery. The rosehip bush is native to Europe but currently its highest quality variety comes from Chile, Peru, and Patagonia where its oil is obtained from organic farming and cold pressing. Among its therapeutic uses are the prevention of colds, arthritis, and the reinforcement of the immune system.
To use it on the face, the most common is to mix a few drops of the rosehip oil with a cream. It is very effective on dry and mature skin due to its nourishing and regenerating capacity. It can also be applied directly to damaged or photoaged areas. The result is smooth, hydrated skin and a noticeable reduction in expression lines. In cases of mild acne, a small drop of rosehip is applied to each pimple and lightly tapped with the fingers until completely absorbed. To combat stretch marks and scars, apply directly to the area and gently massage. Cosmetic properties • It acts superficially as a moisturizer, improving skin hydration. • Nourishes and regenerates the skin, visibly reducing scars and wrinkles. • Reduces water loss in the epidermis –the outer layer of the skin- by reinforcing and multiplying the ceramide barrier (family of lipids). • Corrects and prevents skin problems caused by photoaging by favoring the self-generation of melanin (pigment). • Reinvigorates the fibroblast, the dermal cell that produces collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin, and is responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin. • To avoid stretch marks during pregnancy, its use is recommended during the last trimester of pregnancy on the abdomen and breasts. • Contributes to redistribute pigmentation by attenuating - or even eliminating - skin blemishes caused by acne, smallpox, chickenpox, or caused by the sun.
