Yoga Day 2014 - A change of posture

November 05, 2014

From November 16 to 25, 2014 Yoga Centers of Catalonia and Amnesty International (AI) join forces to shed light on the rights of women and girls in an unmissable event: Yoga Day 2014. Yoga master class, talks, documentaries, distributed throughout the Catalan geography, open to both yoga regulars and beginners. Framed in AI's global campaign "My body my rights", one more year Yoga Day shows that Yoga transcends beyond the practice on the mat."The practice of yoga goes far beyond physical activity. Yoga is union and awareness, and bases its principles on the capacity of the human being to contribute, through their own personal fulfillment, to improving the lives of others”, explains Patricia Boadas, yoga teacher and Yoga Day collaborator. The Yoga Day mantra is a #posturechange for human rights, because all people have the right to decide about their body, their health, their sexual life, their gender identity, without suffering discrimination or violence. Yet around the world, the freedom of individuals to make these decisions is coerced by states, medical and legal professionals, and even their families. “We have to raise awareness and make sure that those who already have information about sexual rights spread it among other people.” explained Kando Seraphine, a young activist from Burkina Faso, in conversation with AI. Only from the position of deciding on our own bodies can we empower women to make free and informed decisions and exercise their rights without suffering discrimination. Thanks to the support of more than 10.000 people, in previous editions of Yoga Day, among other things, we have managed to improve the situation of girls who suffered sexual violence in Nicaragua with the creation of specialized courts. In addition, as a result of the AI report "What specialized justice?", the United Nations issued a historic sentence condemning Spain for negligence in a case of gender violence. with your support #YogaDay2014 will continue to bring about tangible change in the lives of people in Nepal, Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Algeria and Morocco, Tunisia and Ireland, because human rights violations have their own name. Join #YogaDay2014 by participating in one of the many organized activities. make a #posturechange for human rights.
