Greeting to the Moon or Chandra Namaskar to contact your feminine side [part 2]

September 21, 2017

In our post last week, we introduced the Salutation to the Moon or Chandra Namaskar. Today, we explain how to do the Moon Salutation step by step, its benefits, and what is its relationship with the I greet the Sun.

The Benefits of Saluting the Moon

The Greeting to the Moon or Chandra Namaskar is a sequence of Yoga with important benefits:
  • It helps channel lunar energy that has refreshing, relaxing and creative qualities.
  • Calms the nervous system.
  • It allows you to connect with your feminine side.
  • Produces a deep stretching and strengthening of the spine, tendons, legs, arms and stomach muscles.
  • It tones the body and gives you flexibility.
  • You learn to control your breath. Each posture has a breathing phase associated with it, or breathing in or out.
  • As it is a learned sequence, only the subconscious acts, leaving the mind at rest.
  • You learn coordination. It is necessary to create the flow between some postures and others, and to perform each one.
  • It induces a meditative state as it relaxes you and frees you from negative thoughts and feelings.
  • If you are not going to meditate afterwards but to sleep, it helps you rest better.

When to practice Moon Salutation?

It is appropriate to practice at any time of the day, afternoon or night, as part of the warm-up of our yoga routine or as a simple ritual with multiple physical, mental, psychic and spiritual benefits. Even better, if it is done during the new or full moon. If after a long day you want to relax, you can do the Greeting to the Moon and thus rest better.

Why are there so many variations of the Moon Salutation?

As soon as you search the internet a bit, you will see that there is no consensus. The question then arises, why are there so many variations of the Moon Salutation? The answer appears when we look at the I greet the Sun, they complement each other even in that. The Sun Salutation is a sequence created in the XNUMXth century. It became famous and hence a sequence with the name of the Moon was made. If there are variations in the Sun Salutation, how could there not be in the lunar version? There are even more. The one we have chosen at YogaYe is a very relaxing one, and we hope you like it a lot. The postures of the Salutation to the Moon step by step The gaze is soft, with the eyes half-closed slightly, like a crescent moon. Focus on your breath, always through your nose. Look for deep, diaphragmatic breaths. Try not to do the ujjayi breathing, which lights our internal fire. Inhale and exhale gently and slowly. The breath dictates the duration of the movement. Chandra Namaskar is an excellent sequence for relaxation. Try it, we assure you that you will love it.
