Ayurvedic teas are simple and delicious mixtures of spices, fruits, flowers, and berries, infused with boiling hot water. They were created to help us balance our doshas, vital energies that control the biological and psychological functions of the organism. According to Ayurveda – in Sanskrit “ayus” is life and “veda” is knowledge-, there are three doshas -Vata, Pitta, and Kapha- that are related and fluctuate with each other to keep the body stable. You can be one of them or a combination of all of them. Your dosha is determined by the strongest “types” in that balance. You may not yet know which dosha you are. A good trick to determine it while you wait to consult an expert, is to try different Ayurvedic infusions. If you don't feel comfortable with any of them - not because you don't like the taste but because of something you may not be able to define but just feel - it means that it is not the right one for your dosha "type". Try another variety. Here are the oldest and most traditional recipes, and their benefits.
Vata Infusion
Liquorice, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, fennel. Indicated for states of overexcitement, insomnia, inability to rest. Promotes feelings of calm, relaxation, and balance.
pitta infusion
Licorice, roses, fennel, cardamom, and ginger. Recommended if you feel angry or frustrated. Promotes clear thoughts, balanced emotions, and good digestion.
Kapha Infusion
Ginger, liquorice, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper and cardamom. Perfect if you feel lazy, depressed, or have a slow metabolism. Promotes an ideal weight, feeling of energy and an optimistic attitude.
tridosha infusion
Benefits all doshas. Coriander, cardamom, fennel, cinnamon, and mint.
Recommendations to prepare Ayurvedic infusions:
- Use between ¼ and ½ teaspoon of each spice and add water to the boiling point.
- If you have a combined dosha, you can of course combine spices for both doshas.
- Your dosha also depends on your vital moment, and can vary according to the stage of your life. Choose the Ayurvedic infusion that best suits your current circumstances.
