How to create a morning yoga routine?

January 31, 2017

Yoga is 99% practice, 1% theory. That was the advice of K. Pattabhi Jois, one of the great contemporary yoga masters. But since you can't always go to a yoga center, it's important to create a space for self-practice. Self-practice is an opportunity to observe and listen to your body in a deeper way. YogaYe gives you 7 tips to create a morning yoga routine. 1) Find a suitable space in your home Pick a specific spot with as few distractions as possible. Think about light and temperature. It must be clean to make you want to install your yoga mat. If you practice in the morning, don't turn on your phone before you're done. Preparing and caring for this place is part of the practice. 4 elements you want to have in the space where you practice: - Your yoga equipment: look at this home yoga set with mat, block and belt. - A candle, because fire burns everything it has caused to suffer. - An incense, which represents the movement of air with the smoke that travels. - A flower or a glass of water because it symbolizes the earth. It is said that the inner space greatly affects the mind. With the arrival of winter, we spend more time indoors. That is why it is important to take care of the atmosphere of your home. 2) Create a morning routine Practice in the morning. Try to establish a routine before starting your day. If you plan to practice at the end of the day, unforeseen things can always come up and you end up doing something else. Planning your practice in the morning ensures you do it for real. put it in the calendar. But if one day you have not been able to get up, be flexible and not too hard on yourself. 3) Set a realistic goal: frequency and duration Don't set goals that are too difficult for yourself. For starters, 30 minutes of practice is fine. If you are too demanding, your practice will not be sustainable. You can start with twice a week and see how you feel on practice days. Little by little it will be installed as a ritual, and soon you will not be able to spend a day without practicing! 4) Practice listening to your inner voice and what your body asks of you Seek to connect with your body and follow what your intuition tells you, listen to your inner voice and make yoga practice a moment to connect with yourself. practice alone can be surprising: it allows you to explore asanas in depth and enjoy a practice at your own pace. It also allows you to realize that every day we are different and therefore every day your practice will be different and your body will have other needs. 5) Never skip the final relaxation Savasana It is one of the most important and pleasurable postures in yoga. These closing minutes are very important to integrate the benefits of the practice. In general, Savasana at home is a bit shorter than in a class, but don't skip it! Practice at home but don't forget to still attend guided practices from time to time :-) 6) What do you want to dedicate your energy to? You can create an atmosphere that helps you connect with a certain energy. Everyone has their preferences, choose yours. It may be a deity of India. Ganesh is said to help remove obstacles. It can also be a symbol, an object, or anything that allows you to be a better person and inspires you. And ask yourself: this energy field that I am creating, what do I want to dedicate it to? 7) Do it! It does not matter if one day you can only do a few sun salutations or if you have a few minutes, what matters is daily consistency. YogaYe gives you one last piece of advice: remember that a practice is not just an asana. It can also be reading a text, meditating or practicing an inner Om in silence. Namaste.
