The meaning of Namaste

Jun 20, 2014

Many years ago I was lucky enough to make my first trip to India. I knew at that time that namaste It was the traditional greeting of the area, but - the truth -, I was not clear about its meaning. If you have ever practiced yoga or have spiritual interests, you have surely heard this word on more than one occasion. In my case, experiencing the greeting and finally understanding what they were saying to me with it was a wonderful discovery. namaste it is a way of honoring the other person, of showing deep respect and gratitude. To do it, the palms of the hand placed in front of the chest are joined, the eyes are closed, and the head is tilted, while the word is pronounced. It can also be done by placing the hands in front of the third eye, bowing the head and then bringing them to the heart. Many times you greet only with the gesture, without the need to say a word, and it is indistinct to do it when we arrive or when we say goodbye. The meaning of Namaste it is wide, since Sanskrit, the sacred and ancient language from which it comes, is considered one of the most complete and perfect. Literally, Name means "reverence" as means "I", and te means "you". Its translation then is, "respect me" or "I respect you".

“I honor the place within you where the entire Universe resides. I honor the place within you of love and light of truth and peace. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are only One”

El namaste it is the belief that each of us has a divine spark. It is looking at the other in the purest way, without judgments, without preconceptions. Namely "I salute the place where you and I are one” ó “Let the good in me see the good in everyone else”, among many other meanings. And so understanding it was a wonderful discovery. The meaning of Namaste should not go unnoticed, it is the quintessence of respect and consideration for the other. We are one, we are everything, we are the universe. Namaste.
